THIS IS HOW: A young mom called our office upset about a teacher telling her that her daughter had ADHD and needed to be enrolled in an evaluation program at a local university. CCHR Florida provided the mother with information about mental health screening, its subjective nature and the statistics on the number of children prescribed potentially harmful psychiatric drugs because of it. Further, her informed consent rights required that she should be made aware of alternative options. With all the information to hand, the mother decided against the evaluation and found an alternative, workable solution for her daughter’s needs.
